Purpose
If I had a dollar for everytime a question around purpose was asked I would be a rich woman! At some point in our lives, we start to think about questions like ‘why am I here?’ or ‘ is this it?’ if we’re feeling disheartened, I guess that’s when we have a potential gateway to do the inner work. Perhaps up until now you haven’t had space or time to think about these, you’ve been focused on achieving or doing, the traditional form of success.
More and more, we are being encouraged to turn inwards, to trust ourselves more, to seek, to collaborate, to build a tribe, to connect with others. We are hard wired to connect, as this great Ted talk by Lieberman takes us through: http://newsroom.ucla.edu/releases/we-are-hard-wired-to-be-social-248746
What does being connected have to do with purpose? Well, sometimes, we can all be guilty of thinking ‘what can I get from the world?’ I have found in my own life, when I turn this question around to ‘what can I give the world?’ and I operate from a place of being of service to others, I am rewarded tenfold in my own life. I need to remember to be in this space more often, I notice when I am generally connected and present, these insights can drop in more.
There are some great exercises around purpose, Michael Gerber in his book takes you through a very powerful visualisation exercise. I have included some questions below that you may want to complete before reading the exercise to get your head in the right space.
Purpose gives me a lighthouse when I’m feeling the darkness and this quote constantly serves to help me to remember this. “He who has a why to live for can bear almost any how.”
― Friedrich Nietzsche

If you were being really true to yourself, what would you be saying?
What is a voice that whispers to you?
What stops you from listening?
How can you drown out the noise?
Where do you need to find space for yourself?
How can you be of true service in the world?
What gifts about yourself can you acknowledge right now?
Where do others need your gifts?
